About My Classes

I was blessed to be homeschooled through tenth grade, and have been homeschooling my own kids for the past six years. While I’m in the elementary years of my own homeschooling journey, I remember well what it was like to be a homeschooled high school student.

After completing my master’s degree in theology, I realized that one way to share my knowledge in this season of life would be to offer high school theology classes.

I know firsthand the experience of being a part of wonderful Christian homeschool communities that are great for finding friends and support, but that don’t teach Lutheran theology. I know not all Lutheran homeschool students will go to a Concordia and have a chance to take these kinds of classes, and I’d love to help meet that need or fill that gap. I think of these classes as comparable to a homeschool co-op class taught by a professional teacher, so there’s no accreditation (the parent would put the course on their student’s transcript themselves), but I provide a syllabus, required reading assignments, grading, lectures, discussions, papers, etc.

Are these classes only for homeschoolers?

No! Any young person who would like to take a class like this is welcome to do so! This would also be a great way to supplement a public school education for LCMS families that desire to do so. If you have any questions about managing the workload alongside a traditional school model, please feel free to reach out and start a conversation.

What about students who are not Lutheran?

Again, anyone who would like to take a class is welcome to do so. I am committed to the Lutheran faith as confessed in the Book of Concord and as practiced in the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. The classes will be taught from this perspective. However, a conversation is always enriched by discussing alternative views and perspectives, and I would strive to provide a nurturing and encouraging environment for any student interested in participating.

What are the details? How much does it cost?

Information on classes for the upcoming school year will become available in March and April. Registration typically takes place from May through July. If there is not enough interest or if schedules make it impossible to hold a live class, asynchronous versions of Lutheran Confessions and Church History will be made available. Please reach out if you have any questions.
